Confession time—I have been known to tell people that they have dehydrated skin. You don’t have to be one of my nearest and dearest to hear this from me. I once told a co-worker and she came in the next day to tell me that she had gone straight to a department store and bought a multi-step skin care system.
I didn’t have the heart to tell her that the brand she bought sucked.
I have seriously dehydrated skin. This is not the same as dry skin, no matter what some people will tell you. In the most basic terms, dry skin lacks oil and you can treat it with those rich and thick creams that everyone loves. You can slather those babies on as thickly as you like, but if you have dehydrated skin then it will do square root of squat.
How do you know if your skin is dehydrated? It has nothing to do with how much water you drink. First, take your index finger and place it on your cheek. Push lightly upwards. Do you see a lot of tissue papery lines? DEHYDRATION! Does your skin often look dull and drab, but it may have a lot of shine and oil in some areas? Say it with me—DEHYDRATION!
Now to the fun part. I have discovered the ultimate product for dehydrated skin—Laneige Water Bank Serum. It deserves multiple exclamation points!!!!
OMGthisisthebestthingever, donteventrytofightme! Laneige is a Korean skin care line and if you have never explored K-beauty then you are missing out. This is a very light, watery serum that should be used after cleansing and toning, but before your nightly moisturizer. In one night, the difference in my parched skin was visible. The dullness was reduced and those fine crêpe paper lines were lessened dramatically. Never in all of my years of product trial and error have I seen such quick results!
Full disclosure, my skin was in a bad state. You may not notice such dramatic changes if you are beginning from a better place. I was looking harsh.
I have tried far more expensive products with less effect. This was in the 45.00 CDN range, but consider that it is a 60 ml size and one pump is enough for 24 hours. Don’t use the excuse that this is hard to find. Laneige is widely available online and is now sold in Sephora! I’ve also heard a rumor that the line is in Target stores, but I can’t check that out because, you know, Canada.
Enjoy the serum and try not to bathe in it. That would get pricey.
Until next time, MEOW!
